If you pulled the October 2 security update into a B2B Kit project, new sign-ups could fail: the user was created without an organization, and the magic link returned an error. This is fixed in the latest B2B Kit. Pull it, or update src/lib/organizations/createOrganization.ts to pass headers to auth.api.createOrganization only when they exist. Indie Kit Pro is not affected.
Both kits now report 0 known vulnerabilities in pnpm audit. No major version bumps.
Better Auth 1.7.7 fixes a critical issue (GHSA-965c-763c-88jm) where an OAuth state could be used as a magic link to sign in as another user. Both kits use magic link + Google sign-in, so this one matters. No database migration needed.
Next.js 16.3.8 fixes several critical and high issues (remote code execution in next/og and image optimization, SSRF, cache poisoning).
React 19.3, Inngest, Sentry, sharp and transitive packages updated.
To update an existing project, bump better-auth to ^1.7.7 and next to ^16.3.8 (or pull the latest kit), then run pnpm install && pnpm build.
Follow the /migrate-to-better-auth guide in your project (works in Cursor, Claude, or any agent).
Database upgrade scripts are included for Pro and B2B.
B2B changes
Roles are Owner, Admin, and Member (not “User”).
Permissions use orgPerm and auth.api.hasPermission, not old role-string checks.
Active organization lives on the session (activeOrganizationId), not a separate cookie setup.

v1.x (Better Auth) is the default docs version.
v0.x (Auth.js) is kept as legacy/archive docs.
Getting Started now leads with the CLI.

Why this matters
Better Auth is the new foundation for auth in Indie Kit going forward. New projects get a cleaner, more modern setup. Existing projects can migrate with the CLI and guided toolkit instead of doing it by hand.
What you should do
Starting fresh: use npx indiekit@latest.
On an older kit: run npx indiekit migrate auth, back up your database, then follow the migration guide.
Reading docs: use v1.x docs by default; switch to v0.x only if you’re still on Auth.js.
